The cot

Today we moved our youngest son, Son #3,  from a baby cot to a standard bed. His cot was dismantled and will eventually be sold.

The last time we tried to do this, with Son #2,  I bawled my eyes out because it meant that my baby making days were over. We had decided raising two children would be enough for our family. It was so final.

I sobbed that day, three years ago, as Jason was preparing to dismantle the cot.

When he saw how devastated I was, he didn't have the heart to touch it, gave me a hug and said we would leave the cot up for another month or so. Shortly afterwards, we planned to have our third child.

Today, when the cot was put away, I didn't bawl. And there were no sobs. Not because I wasn't sad.

I was. I am.

But I guess the time does come when you're ready to say goodbye to such things...

  1. It does make it seem so final doesn't it. My daughter fell out of her crib when she was 12 months old and fractured her skull and I bought her a big girl bed that day. I never had that moment of sadness of getting rid of it but have done over other things.(she was OK, but I was terrified and of course felt like a bad mother)

  2. Mine's still standing in a friend's house so I didn't have the dismantling trauma. Lucky you.. a third one... I begged... but it was not to be! A-M xx

  4. And a gorgeous cot it is Anita!
It wasn't until AFTER we sold the cot that we decided maybe 3 would be nice. Oh well, got a nice new cot out of it:-)
    Have a great week.

  5. Oh - I know that feeling. And over here - people are still encouraging me to have a fourth with wee Pokemon being 6 year's old already!!! Luckily we don't have the cot anymore (prematurely dismantled by the housefire) so I don't have to consider it too seriously ;-)

  6. Just caught up on your previous posts Anita! Looks like you have a few busy months ahead of you! Good luck with it all and I hope the list doesn't come back to haunt you in 6 months time!

Can't wait to see the picture of the installed light too!

    Best wishes and happy week,
    Natasha.

  8. We just put our son in a bed. I gave the cot away, which my husband was not happy about but I can't bear selling things I think it's wrong. Anyway I sent an email to the school mothers and it ended up going to someone who I know was going to love it and in fact the baby it was for has the same name as my daughter so I knew it was meant to be. I felt pretty sad though.. it is like saying goodbye to a stage in your life. xoxo

  9. I just found this old post and had to comment. I just gave away the Pack N Play, and it was a sad moment for me too. Grandson #2 is almost 2 and has outgrown the crib. Both boys had taken many a nap in it over the past 3 years, as I have kept them several days a week since they were born. To make it even sadder, Grandson #1 is almost 3 and started to early childhood "school" last week, so I'm not keeping him anymore. It's not just mothers who get sentimental over these milestones. My sweet boys are growing up. :(
