Study bookshelves finished

The bookshelf in the study is complete. Hooray!

And we are going to be quite boring and put only books and some DVDs in them for now.

Floor to ceiling bookshelves for the study in our Queenslander
We are very pleased with them as it is good use of previously dead space. Storage in a Queenslander house is always scarce.

Some of our books- the military fiction and non-fiction  (with the rogue Star Wars book) are Jason's
We have another bookshelf in the study which we plan on re-painting to store the rest of our books and files. That will be for another day though.

Speaking of books, I just bought a series of Shakespeare for young readers for Son #1. Last semester, his teacher had been reading them aloud in class during free time. The books have really captured #1's imagination and he was very keen to get some for home.

It is always a struggle to find books which appeal, so at least I knew I would be on a winner with these books.

Shakespeare for children books
Son#1's favourite was Henry V

The plays have been retold in more accessible language and are a great introduction to Shakespeare. I ordered them online from Shakespeare's Globe in the UK and they arrived within a week of ordering them - just in time for the school holidays!

  3. Your shelves look fantastic! I am so impressed to see such a wide variety of literature on display.

I am also very impressed to see that amazing collection of Shakespeare texts! I wish more mums were like you and encouraged reading a wide variety of books...it would have made my life so much easier when I was teaching high school English!

Enjoy the last week of the holidays as they'll be over before we know it.

    Best wishes,
    Natasha.

  4. The bookshelves look great. I do love perusing others' bookshelves ... I think I have that same edition of Catch-22.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Shakespearian ones for my lot, though I think your eldest sounds a lot smarter than mine!

  5. Those Shakespeare books look great, my 2 are just at that age now where they'd enjoy them so thanks a mill for mentioning that.
Really like your bookshelves, I have a gigantic bookcase that is going to be painted next week (once joint birthday party is over) and it will be home to hundreds of books and dvds too!

  7. I agree that storage is scarce..it is very scarce in my Queenslander too..I would dearly love a set of bookshelves like yours. Built ins are the best as they make use of all the space available and yours look great!

  8. I expect it's only kids who have the time to read books, Bris - Jason certainly hasn't. Tell him to get on with the rest of the stuff he needs to do, and when he's done that he can begin the never-ending maintainance schedule.

  10. Tom, poor Jason used to read much more than he does now. He can only handle light, slightly foppish historical fiction these days...xx

  12. Bookshelves look great with the vj backs in them. Much more stylish than the little family of ikea expedits solving our queenslander storage issues.

  13. The shelves look great and how handy are they! Our home is the same, no storage, but hey, what can you do? Build your own obviously!

  16. I'm wondering what Shakespearean character Mr Rooney would play? Do you think he has a Fatal Flaw or is as perfect as presented? The shelves look great, as does the glimpse of the yellow chair.

  17. Mise, perhaps Mr Rooney could play Sir Toby Belch from Twelfth Night? xx

  18. Alas, poor Rooney! I knew him, Horatio; a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now?

  19. Certainly not boring placing books on bookshelves.
What great books for children too. I will have to look into some of these. We've only just moved into chapter books with my eldest, and I'm OVER THE MOON!

  20. Bookshelves look great, and thank you so much for the link to the Shakespeare books. I'm always on the lookout for kid friendly versions of the classics. My daughter adores Jane Austen thanks to the BBC so this would be another great way to introduce the bard.
