A.F Dawson Residence at Brisbane Open House

Well what a busy couple of weeks we've had in the lead up to Brisbane Open House which was held last weekend.

It's all done and dusted and we were so pleased to be involved in the event as part of the residential homes component. For those who don't know, our home was the A.F Dawson Residence in the program.

Jason and I had a terrific time opening our home and sharing it with the general public -  meeting lovely new people and even the neighbours. We were also happy to meet quite a few Fun and VJs readers and instagram followers. Thanks so much for visiting and hearing the story of what we know about the home so far and our plans for it.

For those of you who missed out, you can visit Walk Among the Homes blog to view a special virtual home tour. As the house is very much a work-in-progress, there have been a few changes since then...it's ever evolving as we remove, repair and restore!

We were also chuffed to be in the Courier Mail's QWeekend 4 October issue with an article written by the wonderful Margie Fraser. It is a hoot of a story about how we came to view the house because of the furniture and ended up buying the house instead!

And if you still want to satisfy your curiosity about the house, keep reading here. I promise to keep it updated more religiously as we go along!

  1. I'm so glad you had fun. Your home is so gorgeous, and you deserve all the wonderful things that everyone has said about it. Fifteen years ago or so, a friend of mine had a very different experience. Her ultra mid-century home was on a tour in her small Ohio hometown. All she heard were snide remarks like "I don't know why they think this looks good. I put junk like this on the curb years ago." I doubt that people in her town have developed an appreciation for mid-century decor even yet.

    1. Your poor friend...how deflating would that have been! We had the opposite response. People were so complimentary (or had the good manners to keep their thoughts to themselves!) and were asking were we obtained our furnishings etc. I was giving out business cards for all the places I frequent...It was so good to share our place with all the lovely visitors. Xx

  3. my husband bought our Queenslander in similar circumstances - went to buy a ladder and bought the house. I spent less than 3 minutes in the house and it wasn't until after the private sale went through I even learnt how many rooms it had! We have been here for 14 years now and have no plans to move, although I could be tempted if I see the right mid-century style house....

    1. Oh too funny anonymous! A very expensive ladder indeed...but glad you and your hubby can relate. I guess you know when you stumble on something very special and 14 years is a good innings...Let me know when you find the mid-century house, ok? There are still many gems to be rediscovered. xx

  5. I missed the article. I don't buy the newspapers. I don't know why ...

I love your house. As always, so inspiring. I look at your photos and think it's all so fabulous and wonderful. And I've seen the family in situ and know that it's all not just for show! It is a wonderful family home! Good for you!! I can't wait to hear what the architect thought!!

    1. I know why you don't buy the paper...there's a lot of rubbish in it! We may end our subscription because of how bad it has become. And thanks so much for your lovely comments. I'll let you know how my talk with the architect goes. xx
