Renovating an older home has a way of destroying the yard. We are currently left with large patches of dirt here, there and everywhere... which has not been helped by the extremely dry weather we've been having in Brisbane.
When the external side stairs were rebuilt, we pulled out an old garden bed and removed a lot of old concrete which formed a path to the stairs. Now that we've been pathless for a few months, we are planning on laying turf with some stepping stones leading to the stairs...as in the image below.

Stay tuned, as Jason may be casting off his hi-vis shirts for some shirtless turf laying action. You'll also be pleased to know that he's embraced the metro manscaped hairy chest look over his previous 70s porn star hairy chest look. It's his new Fun and VJs summer look to keep the punters happy.

ReplyDeleteThis is a most attractive option for producing a path. The stepping stones will provide a practical pathway and will really lead the visitor in the direction in which you wish them to go. Our advice would be to buy good quality turf and to prepare its foundations well. In that way it will thrive in most conditions and will stay looking green and flourishing.
I have so many work for Jason with or without his shirt whenever he's completed at your put! !
ReplyDeleteI'm loving all your and Jason are doing to your home, it's looking great. I was wondering about sunlight there too. Grass can get patchy in shady areas. You'll have to change your banner to the new silk purse soon!

ReplyDeleteMy goodness, not only can he paint but landscape as well! Really like your inspiration photo - that will work nicely. If you're worried about lack of sunlight, try using Sir Walter Buffalo (which does really well in shady areas and is a little more drought resilient that other varieties such as couch.) xx
ReplyDeleteWe are also looking at turf options for a small area and have decided on 'synthetic turf' since we have no grass at all.

ReplyDeleteHi ... we have done exactly what you are planning i.e. laid turf with big square pavers as stepping stones. Looks fantastic. You must use good quality turf. We have found Sir Walter to be the turf of choice ... always green and lush ... even in the dry weather we've had for the last few months, the grass is always green ... only problem it does grow very quickly ... but Jason being the "action man" he is it won't be a problem ... trust me the Sir Walter always looks stunning. Good luck ... look forward to the photos.

ReplyDeleteMine loves to turf. He turfs when stressed or happy or bored. In fact much of our previously wild yard has now yielded to the lord of the turf. Go with the Sir Walter as it survives anything including three boys playing endless summer cricket. Jason could shave some little square patches in his own chest turf for a graphic match.
