Four years at the Sow's Ear

Fours years ago we became the fourth owners of the Sow's Ear, since it was built in 1928. In some ways it only seems like yesterday when we first moved in, and in other ways it seems like we've been here forever.

Most readers don't know that I was reluctant going through with the purchase of the Sow's Ear. It was Jason who loved the Sow's Ear from the start..love at first-sight kind of thing...not sure how the romance is going now, but he's persevering with it like a true Romeo.

I thought it would be fun to look back at some old photos of the Sow's Ear...to remind us how far we've come. It's like our fourth child.

  1. Congratulations on four years! You know that I've been lucky enough to visit the Sow's Ear a couple of times. I think it's absolutely gorgeous and so well renovated. You've done such a great job ... mostly yourselves. I've enjoyed the whole crazy ride!

  2. Doesn't time fly? It's great to look back and see all that's been achieved isn't it? It takes the focus off that neverending to-do-list! You guys have done a wonderful job.

    1. Thanks Ness. The four year mark is quite satisfying to reach. Our yard still needs work and then we have lots to do under the house. xx

  4. In the time I've been reading your blog, you've done so many wonderful things to the Sow's Ear. We're all watching it turn into a silk purse before our very eyes. Thanks for showing us what it looked like when you first saw it.

  5. Gongratulations!!! I'm SO impressed with the amazing work you both have done, your house is so beautiful, full of charm and character! It's so interesting to see how different it is from the wooden houses from that same period over here. It looks very exotic. I adore the sun room!! A typical 20s house over here have tall, steep roofs. Late 20s houses show signs of early modernism, but it wasn't until the 30s that the roof angles flattened out more, but they still mostly had tiled roofs with a slight angle.
Thank you so much for showing your beautiful house, it's been so great to learn about the Queenslanders!

    1. It's so strange to read your 'exotic' impression of the Queenslander, Tove. The wooden houses here tended to have high ceilings and then the sunrooms were usually enclosed verandahs (or sleepouts)which were used as extra bedrooms as a family expanded. I'd love to know more about the wooden houses in Norway. xx
