Brothel...oops! I mean Study progress

It was high domestic drama last night. I was reprimanded for my hoarding ways when we were clearing out the study in preparation for sanding and painting. Poor Jason can't stand that we have excess stuff and issued me a stiff warning: "There's no point renovating if you intend to keep it as a brothel!"

I told him to take a chill pill but that didn't go down well. In an effort at self-preservation, I told him I'd improve my bower bird ways...clearly, I was lying but it was enough to quell Jason's fiery temper.  This is one of the ground-hog day arguments we play over and over again. You know how it is...same argument, different day...

The window architraves are repaired and the undercoat to cover the old cream walls has been applied.
The windows will be repainted white.
Here's an alternative view of Jason for his fans.

Jason put an architrave around the door. It used to have nothing but now it is nicely framed .
It is only a small room at approximately 3m x 3m. As Blog HQ I'm hoping it will be finished soon.

  1. Oh dear! That's a nice architrave.

I had a similar 'discussion' the other morning with my husband who complained about our over-supply of tupperware/plasticware. I got so cranky I told him just to throw it all in the bin. And then I did. I threw it in the bin for him. And then he had to get it out and wash it all! Ha.

Can you give some stuff excess away? I've just bought a shredder. I'll start shredding stuff next.

It's hard to be minimalist when there're kids.

  2. I know! Minimalism is not happening here either. I just have to go through all our office stuff and do a cull of old files to make more space and sort through some books and DVDs which we don't need. It's not as dire as Jason seems to think!!xx

  3. I’ll argue.

The study is too small and gets used a lot. The dining room is too big and is comparatively underutilised.

While you’ve got the tools out, punch the dividing wall of the study out into the dining room. Maybe by a metre into, what is essentially, dead space. This makes the study bigger and more useful and comes at no cost to the dining area, which is already a ‘shotgun room’. Better proportions all round, in my view.

There’s nothing ‘structural’ involved in shifting that wall and doorway a metre (or two) into the dining room, and by the look of the fine job Jas did on the architraves, it isn’t beyond the shirtless ones skills and capability.

Think big. Be ambitious. Do it once.

  4. Oooh despite having no idea about the actual floorplan of the sow's ear I am going to second Mr Rooney. Shirtless Jason knocking out a wall is sure to create great blog fodder. And the motto, my goodness it's better than Nike.
Secondly from what i have seen of your house, you absolutely do not have hoarding genes. Unless it's all hidden under the house that is. melx

  8. I agree with Mr Rooney's comment. What a great idea!

  9. It's a great idea and we did discuss it but then we thought that we'd just fill it up with more stuff that we don't need...xx

  10. I have office envy. A 3mx3m room how nice, I am trying to fit an entire office onto a small desk 500ml x 1m, it's not really working. I'm with you on same argument... different day! lol They are all the same really. Have a great day, hope your HQ is done soon. x Jode

  11. 3m x 3m is a great space for a study. Go take a look at AMs Monday nooks for some inspiration and retro it up. Good luck! ;-)

  12. Mr Rooney is a man of action! Could you just knock out the wall and not replace it?
I came home from somewhere relaxing the other day to find the husband had stopped building to rest and rearranged the whole house. Yes, that is how he rests. It was a bit zen as a large amount of furniture was filed downstairs.
I smiled, said it was lovely and have slowly been sneaking things back up. A very public display of toy culling for the oppie has also helped! Plus it gets me more oppy karma for yet more finds!

  14. Whilst what mr Rooney says sounds logical to most my view is.... Are you crazy??? There should always be top priority given to areas where underutilized furniture can live and breath and just be... He he

  17. You're just like my hubby and I'm like Jason - I can't stand hoarding! I had a good laugh reading your post. Can't wait to see it finished. Ange

  18. Been on a bit of a decluttering binge at my place too. Our study needs an overhaul which surprises me considering we've only been in the house nine months but it probably doesn't help that there's still two boxes I've not unpacked. What is it with study's and the junk that accumulates in this space?
    xx
