Bedside tables by Rosando

One of the first "grown-up" purchases Jason and I made, when we had enough savings to buy furniture, was a pair of matching bedside tables.

I know, I know...it's no longer fashionable to be all matchy-matchy...but after years of living with a mis-matched pair of cheaply made drawers, I just never felt fashionable. Just poor.

A few years ago, we sourced a nice pair of 1960s Rosando cabinets from Angelucci 20th Century in Melbourne and had them sent up to Brisbane. And we have never regretted the purchase because they are so nicely made and they are just lovely and simple.

Rosando was a family furniture making business in Melbourne. Many of their pieces were custom made and they are now becoming quite collectable in this age of the mass-produced.

My favourite part of the cabinet is the pull-out top shelf, which we use for our drinks and cups of tea in bed. Ingenious! There is also one top drawer and the bottom door opens to reveal a small storage space with a shelf.

Miniature Murano art glass vase

And I am the very lucky recipient of a miniature Murano art glass piece - from a giveaway hosted by Katherine at theoldboathouse. It goes well with the turquoise bud vase. Cute!

Thank you Katherine! And also thanks to Liz from Nostalgia and Now who gave me her entry (there was no collusion involved either) and thus increased my chances of winning. Seriously, you are too kind!

  1. Where is the lego man? It, the mini purple murano(would be a good ebay name don't you think?) looks very cute on the bedside. I LOVE your bedsides. I also think the addition of the thick glass on the top is a great idea to protect the timber from those tea cups and water bottles.

  2. Ha! It looked too nice to put it next to the Lego man. Anyway the bud vase gives it scale. Thanks again. I love it. xx

  3. The vase looks lovely there. Isn't it pleasant to have nice things to look at when you're lying in bed? That's what I tell my husband when he glances in my direction!

And those bedside tables are very smart, in more ways than one. I'm still using the bedside tables I was given when I was eight. Sad.

Did you get a glazier to make the glass tops? I've gotta go, I hear a trumpet being blown in someone's ear.

  12. Too true Tom! The decision to buy our first house was made more quickly than deciding on the bedside tables. With hindsight, I wish we had done it the other way around. x

  18. Love your bedsides- funky and functional- what more could a girl ask for? We also have matching bed side tables- both silky oak and even more scandilously are modern reproductions as finding matching antique silky oak bedsides are like hens teeth. My favourite piece of furniture is the gorgeous silky oak art nouveau dresser we bought as our first serious piece not longer after we bought our first house, and it is still my favourite 11 years on.

  19. I can't decide what I like more, the pull out tray at the top or that absolutely stunning design they've utilised for the drawer handles.

That little Murano piece looks quite the treat on the bedside.

  24. Gorgeous bedsides - how cute is the pull out shelf. I would love to visit Angelucci one day, I love their sofas too. We still have matching bedside tables in our bedroom but mix it up a little in the guest bedroom. I'm hoping to sell all of our bedroom furniture so I can do it all over again. It's nice but it just isn't me anymore. It's not you furniture, it's me, I've changed. ha ha. It's like I'm breaking up with my bedroom suite.
