Paint is like magic.
Jason painted the wardrobe doors in the master bedroom a few weeks ago but I forgot to do a show and tell. Bad blogger!
Newly painted built-in wardrobe in an old Queenslander. |
The final result is a thousand times better than before. I couldn't be happier!
A few coats of white gloss paint and some discreet door knobs and we have an inexpensive (though very tedious for Jason) makeover.
If we had money spare, we probably would've changed the doors completely but since we don't, painting the doors was the best solution.
We will also need a new light fitting or new shade. As much as I like Chinese lanterns, it is just a temporary measure until we find something suitable.
What the built-in wardrobe looked like before. |
No, those doors look incredible! I wouldn't think of changing them.
ReplyDeleteAnd the lamp shade's perfect, too.
You've been busy. Being busy is the 'In' thing!
hi Anita - that looks fantastic isn't it incredible what a coat of paint can do.
ReplyDeleteI think one of those flat pack wooden pendant make yourself shades would look amazing, a bit Scandi but also work well with your mid century vibe.
If I was a remotely competent commenter I would put a link to them in here I think I saw a little story on them in the most recent Inside Out. xo
those doors look amazing with paint! I'm always blown away with what a little cosmetic work like paint can do to improve things in the home.
ReplyDeleteSENSATIONAL! We've got doors like that in our house - one pair on the linen cupboard and two pair in the kitchen. We painted the linen cupboard a few years ago and was instantly gratified with the results. Still the delightful mission brown in the kitchen but it's going too. Just not quick enough.

I agree the doors look fantastic! Your Jason is definately a keeper. xx
ReplyDeleteLooking good - amazing what a coat of paint does! We finally get to move into our master bedroom today, after getting all the windows back in!
ReplyDeleteDoors look fabulous painted white. Cutesy little frock hanging on that there door too! :) :)

Wow, it looks amazing!! I'm glad you kept the doors, I like the look of them white.
ReplyDeleteI know how tedious it is to paint louvres - you have a good man there!
ReplyDeleteYes, Jason has done good - it looks fab! ;-)
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I was a bit worried you were going to leave them timber. I can stop stressing now. They really transform the room.
ReplyDeleteWow they make a big difference don't they....the just blend in now.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the light on Kim's Page on Desire to Inspire? she has a link to someone on ebay that she says does amazing lights...of course i thought of you! The doors look great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! Didn't realize paint can do wonders like that.(now seriously considering re-painting some walls).
ReplyDeleteThe wardrobe looks great! Gosh, no need to change those doors at all, I really like them! Great job :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the look of the doors, they have that cool, plantation look. And with the new handles, they're divine.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you remembered to post about the doors - they look fantastic. Can't believe how productive Jason is.
ReplyDeletethink Jane is on the money with the wooden put-it-together-yourself light.
That level of Storage just Warms My heart.
ReplyDeleteHow's your builder?
That's beautiful, a huge improvement. Do you keep all your fancy hats in those useful high-up cupboards?
ReplyDeleteAh, paint. I'd think it was magical too, if someone else was doing it! (just thinking of myself here, personally I'm sick of painting). Looks great, well done.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a choice of either painting louvres or slamming my head a few times with a car door, you'd find me in the garage.
ReplyDeleteA grinding and thankless task.
Well done Jas'
It all looks really great. So fresh and simple. I love that you resued the doors.
ReplyDeleteMake can make a world of difference, can't it! I love and adore your high ceilings and shiny floors.
ReplyDeleteI have the same project on the roster of things to do in the next few weeks! Glad to see the end result is so worth it.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Jason, the white really highlights the lovley floor boards.
ReplyDeleteThey look great - I've heard that job is v tedious, but worth it from these pics! Love that dress on the door too.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!! So fresh and clean, it makes your room look absolutely HUGE. How on earth do you ever reach anything up top? Is it one of "those" places where stuff goes that you know you're never going to see ever, ever again?!

I have a set of mint green doors on the linen cupboard exactly the same that are waiting to be painted gloss white. Yours look unreal, makes that beautiful floor pop!

ReplyDeleteI actually really like the doors. I have three sets just like them in this house too, so it's great to see a 'before & after' shot of them. Mine are going to be painted! I think they suit the look of your house, and have a QLD feel about them, as I also like plantation shutters. Not that you'd have them on your lovely windows, but you know the vibe.
ReplyDeleteExcellent resourceful makeover. Well done Jason!
Made me think of plantation shutters as well. Looks fantastic in white gloss, love how the cupboard is set back away from the doorway.Worth all Jason's hard work!
ReplyDeletelooks great anita - v. inspiring for me, the boys have the same doors on theor built ins. they look so good painted - might have to develop some patience and do it. jx
ReplyDeletelooks fab - who would have though .... maybe source some cheap and cheerful replicas on ebay for the lights ....or on one of the online scandi sites or there is always ....ikea :) whatever - looks great best le xox ps giveaway on till V day :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a transformation ... they look beautiful. I can imagine they were painful to paint.
ReplyDeleteBuilt-in wardrobe furniture gives best option for storage and convenient to be fixed in ceiling and walls. It requires an expert to install it and takes up a lot of room space. However, it stores away almost everything from clothes, shoes, cosmetics etc.
