Master bedroom built-in wardrobe

Paint is like magic.

Jason painted the wardrobe doors in the master bedroom a few weeks ago but I forgot to do a show and tell. Bad blogger!

Newly painted built-in wardrobe in an old Queenslander.

The final result is a thousand times better than before. I couldn't be happier!

A few coats of white gloss paint and some discreet door knobs and we have an inexpensive (though very tedious for Jason) makeover.

If we had money spare, we probably would've changed the doors completely but since we don't, painting the doors was the best solution.

We will also need a new light fitting or new shade. As much as I like Chinese lanterns, it is just a temporary measure until we find something suitable.

What the built-in wardrobe looked like before.

  1. No, those doors look incredible! I wouldn't think of changing them.

And the lamp shade's perfect, too.

You've been busy. Being busy is the 'In' thing!

  2. hi Anita - that looks fantastic isn't it incredible what a coat of paint can do.

I think one of those flat pack wooden pendant make yourself shades would look amazing, a bit Scandi but also work well with your mid century vibe.

If I was a remotely competent commenter I would put a link to them in here I think I saw a little story on them in the most recent Inside Out. xo

  4. SENSATIONAL! We've got doors like that in our house - one pair on the linen cupboard and two pair in the kitchen. We painted the linen cupboard a few years ago and was instantly gratified with the results. Still the delightful mission brown in the kitchen but it's going too. Just not quick enough.

  20. Ah, paint. I'd think it was magical too, if someone else was doing it! (just thinking of myself here, personally I'm sick of painting). Looks great, well done.

  21. If I had a choice of either painting louvres or slamming my head a few times with a car door, you'd find me in the garage.

    A grinding and thankless task.

    Well done Jas'

  27. Wonderful!!! So fresh and clean, it makes your room look absolutely HUGE. How on earth do you ever reach anything up top? Is it one of "those" places where stuff goes that you know you're never going to see ever, ever again?!

  31. I actually really like the doors. I have three sets just like them in this house too, so it's great to see a 'before & after' shot of them. Mine are going to be painted! I think they suit the look of your house, and have a QLD feel about them, as I also like plantation shutters. Not that you'd have them on your lovely windows, but you know the vibe.
Excellent resourceful makeover. Well done Jason!

  32. Made me think of plantation shutters as well. Looks fantastic in white gloss, love how the cupboard is set back away from the doorway.Worth all Jason's hard work!

  36. Built-in wardrobe furniture gives best option for storage and convenient to be fixed in ceiling and walls. It requires an expert to install it and takes up a lot of room space. However, it stores away almost everything from clothes, shoes, cosmetics etc.
