Exterior house colours and one year blogiversary

While reading the Saturday Courier-Mail, I spotted this house in the Space section of the Qweekend. It was a brief article regarding the renovation of a 1930s cottage in Toowong, completed by Queensland architectural firm Arkhefield. You can check out the project brief here if you are hard core (like me).

I am sharing this image with you purely because of the exterior colour scheme. This is what we have decided for our house. White with minimal dark, almost black trim. (The trim looks like 70 per cent Lindt chocolate brown if you think food analogy). I haven't seen many pure white painted Queenslanders with dark trim (but I don't get out to the more salubrious suburbs), so I was very pleased to see this photo.

I think our house would look great like this. Nothing like a photo to get one inspired! As I've said before,we need to lose the heritage colours and the rendered Tuscan apricot look we currently have. I believe Tuscan apricot and heritage are words which should never to be uttered together.

Also, you must congratulate me on Fun and VJs' first year anniversary - a blogiversary! One year of consistent blogging about all things house related.

I've been very fortunate to have such a lovely community of readers/lurkers and a great band of gracious commenters who are a lot of fun! The gold comments I receive are priceless. Thank-you everyone!

  4. Wow! One year ... I couldn't imagine. I wonder if you think ... 'I can't do this anymore?' or if today's post was as easy as your first?

You have a nice big house frontage for white ... I think it should look good.

  5. Happy 1 year!!

The fresh white is gorgeous, it make everything looks so clean and beautiful. That image is perfect inspiration for your home, they look quite similar. The dark accent colour will 'ground' the house. Good choice!

  10. Hi Anita, congratulations on one year of 'consistent' blogging. You have a great blog which is always fun to read. I love that house you have picked for the colours. We have it ear-marked in one of my magazines. We like those colours too. I think your house will look fabulous. Are you guys going to attempt it yourselves or get a painter in? Good luck!

  12. Great paint choices - one thing you don't see much of around these parts is the dreaded 'heritage colours' - were they a thing of the eighties? Did we like them once? The Kiwis have nailed that crisp white/grey/black thing for their weatherboards.... congrats on the one year mark - here's to at least another couple please... A x

  14. Yay! Happy Blogiversary! I love the colour scheme in this pic - very chic!
I'm a bit the same about heritage colours - ours it true, old heritage out the back but the front was painted cream and smokey blue to get it to sell quicker. I was really happy to not have green, cream and red :)

  16. Yay for your blog milestone Anita and double yaya for that choice of exterior paint colours. Your house will be a head-turner for sure! When we built in Wagga Wagga 3 years ago I really wanted that scheme but BASIX had just been introduced and it didn't allow me to have the dark roof :o(

  19. I really love your choice. I agree with Ann you don't see much of those HORRENDOUS heritage colours in NZ. But good lord they are every where in Australia. Chocolate and white cannot be beat.

And congratulations on 1 year, well done. I do so love coming here.

  23. Congratulations on your blogiversary. Well done! And yes, it really is time we put the heritage and Tuscan colour scheme to bed for good. I think people get wrapped up in the heritage thing. You still have to be sympathetic with the age but not tied to heritage.
