Ravenhead glass

My eyes are always peeled for textured bark glass to add to the collection. I never really stumble upon the really good retro Scandinavian crystal, just the cheaper more ubiquitous British glass made by Ravenhead.

Ravenhead Siesta glasses

On an op-shop crusade, I spied a set of 1970s Ravenhead Siesta beer glasses. I love their shape because they remind me of the Iittala Kekkerit glasses designed by Timo Sarpaneva. The set I picked up are the much poorer cousin...

Kekkerit

Apparently, the Siesta range was a design by AH Williamson who created over 1700 glass designs for Ravenhead - mass produced mostly for public houses and restaurants.

They're a funky looking glass which will make a good talking point when we invite people over for dinner.

And this last shot is of my kitchen shelves which I've re-arranged. It's all happening here at the Sow's Ear! Not.

  3. My Dad used to drink beer out of big glasses like those! Hilarious.

Your kitchen looks great. Nice and clean. Nothing like a wipe-down and a re-arrangement. Bit like a rejuvenating trip to Honolulu really.

  9. Looking good- I'd love to have a rainbow spectrum of art glass arranged on a floating shelf. Also I have a question about the shelves in your kitchen... how are they braced? I have been thinking of putting some up in my kitchen, but am am not sure if the VJ's are thick enough to hold their weight?

  13. I also have the same problem! Thought I had finally found some kekkerit glasses today... But unfortunately they look more like yours from Ravenhead! haha Oh well!

Thank for enlightening me as to the whereabouts of all my imitation Iittala glassware! ;) I will be able to sleep at night now at least!

  14. Hi ross, I don't have your email address so hopefully you'll see this. The floating shelves have a few big lugs which go directly into the VJs. It is similar to the ikea floating shelves but maybe more sturdy - our kitchen cabinet maker installed it. I can't remember what the loading was from the top of my head but it was around 15 to 20 kilos...anyway so far so good, it's still great after 3 years. xx
